3. on ice

At SHIELD, we own and operate the ice facility. This gives us the opportunity to translate what we do off the ice to on ice. Our On Ice Specialists deliver individualize and group sessions based around power skating + transitional movements, skills and shooting, deception, and tactical game play. We believe in creating an experience that enhances your development needs by bringing in elite coaches to power the on ice programs

We believe that athletes need attention all year round, and it’s the offseason where you will make the adaptation. We are pleased to announce the Hockey Mastery Off-Season 2025 Program! We’ve shared some of our most frequently asked questions to help you out. If you still have further questions please email us at info@shieldperformance.ca.

Due to high demand of our Hockey Mastery program, we have limited spots available. We do not offer the option to pro-rate the program cost. We appreciate you being part of the SHIELD community, so we are prioritizing registration.

When Does The Off- Season Start ?

Our official start date is April 29th, 2025. However, like in past years, there are multiple start dates to accommodate when players return home or finish their season.

Athletes will be placed in groups based on their age and their strength levels. Please note we sometimes have more than one group of the same age and strength levels. 

Groups will not exceed 16 participants. 

In the gym, we keep a ratio of 1-6 participants to 1 coach. 

Our Off Season program is for players going into U8 and up. 

Yes, due to the capacity of our program, we require participation in both on and off-ice training. If you wish to only participate in one portion your spot is not guaranteed. The one exception is goalies.

Will be announced shortly, all our on-ice specialists work with NHL, PWHL, OHL, and Jr players and work with significant organizations in hockey. 

Each ice session per week will have a different focus, ie. Monday Skill acquisition, Tuesday tactical gameplay, etc.

For the most part, an off-ice session will be scheduled either before or after an on-ice session. 

For participants still in school in May and June, sessions will be during after-school hours. For participants not in school, there will be sessions in the morning and afternoon. During July and August, the majority of sessions will be all day. 

Only for U8-U12 players.
  • To secure your spot, we require a 50% deposit based on the total cost.
  • The second installment is due 30 days after the initial deposit or before the program begins.
  • If you have multiple family members participating, we can arrange a customized payment plan. Feel free to reach out to us for further details.

Payment can be made by e-transfer to accouting@shieldperformance.ca (please include the participant’s name and invoice #) or by credit card (there is an administration fee of 2.5%). We do not accept cheques or cash.

The advantage to having all our services under one roof is that our therapy staff can work directly with our strength coaches so that the proper movements are being performed in the gym. The SHIELD team must be made aware of any injuries before starting the program. If a player is injured and it is inhibiting participation we will contact the player and/or parent to set up an assessment with our therapy staff.

Email info@shieldperformance.ca confirming your interest in the off-season program will send you a link to our waiver form that needs to be filled out. Please note that the spot is not secured until a 50% deposit is received.
